China Issuing Commemorative Bank Note For 50th Anniversary
The People's Bank of China announced today that it will issue a commemorative bank note on September 20 for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
A commemorative coin and six gold and silver coins will be issued the same day. A PBOC spokesman said that this is the first time for China to issue commemorative bank notes.
The 50-yuan note is red and carries a picture of the founding ceremony of the People's Republic, the globe, a dove of peace, a bronze lion, and ornamental columns.
The 10-yuan commemorative coin is made of double-colored copper alloy. The other coins include a five-ounce gold coin with a face value of 500 yuan, a half-ounce gold coin with a face value of 50 yuan, a five-ounce silver coin with a face value of 50 yuan, and three one-ounce silver coins with a face value of 10 yuan.
The spokesman said that the issue of the note and coins reflect China's social stability, economic development, cultural and artistic prosperity, and scientific and technological advancement.
